Benefits of a healthy lifestyle

My whole life I have struggled with a cycle of anxiety and an unhealthy lifestyle. I still have no clue as to which came first, what I do know is that they are linked to each other, and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle are greatly outweighing the benefits of living a less-than-awesome life.

What does it mean knowing that they are linked? It means that I have the power to stop that cycle of anxiety causing an unhealthy lifestyle, and an unhealthy lifestyle making me constantly anxious.

What are the benefits of a healthy lifestyle?

We are going to look at the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
This is not a “how-to” guide on how to live healthily. This is simply the benefits and motivation for you to start on the road.

I have 9 awesome benefits for you, and I am sure that once you’re done reading you can probably think of 90 more reasons to get out and live your best life!

1. Increased energy

Yep, as usual, we are starting with the obvious answer!
When you live a healthy lifestyle, you will gain more energy.
Exercise, healthy eating and happiness are all key players in the increased energy game.

With so much information out there on how a healthy lifestyle increases your energy, I feel like I don’t need to touch on this one too much.

2. Positively happier

With a healthy lifestyle comes positivity, happiness and even kindness.

These three all seem to fall under the same category and cycle off each other.
When you are healthier, you are happier.
When you are happier, you are more positive.
Being happier and kinder, in turn, makes you kinder to others.
Not just kinder to others, but also kinder to yourself – which is incredibly important.

3. Cleaner home

When you are feeling happier and more energetic, a lot more parts of your life start to fall into place, such as the state of your house.

This is another one that will help you continue on the road to a healthy lifestyle. You will very quickly see that everything in your life is linked, one way or another.
If you are happier and more energetic, you will feel much more motivated to clean your home.
Then once your home is clean, and remains that way, you will have continued happiness and positivity because your environment reflects your mood.

It’s really looking like a healthy lifestyle is the way to go!

4. Less is more

Healthier living means that you will be leading a more fulfilling life.
Living a more fulfilling life brings out less of the bad things that we have worked so hard to rid ourselves of.

  • Less regret
    Because you are living a full life, those little regrets that have eaten away at you will no longer seem important.
  • Less mood instability
    You will always have bad days, it’s inevitable. However, those bad days and mood swings will be far less common
  • Less anxiety and insecurity
    This is the aim of the game for me! Less anxiety. Healthier living is the best thing you can do to show your anxiety and insecurity who is boss.

5. Better Relationships

When I talk about better relationships, I don’t just mean with your romantic partner, I mean with everyone you come into contact with.
You will have better relationships with

  • Your romantic partner
  • Children
  • Parents
  • Neighbours
  • Work Colleagues
  • Your pets
  • Strangers
  • Friends; and
  • Most importantly – yourself!

That’s a whole lot of people who are waiting for an even better relationship with you!
To me, this point alone is enough to make me want to run out and become the best version of myself!

6. You will live longer

This is another obvious one, but just as important.
Living longer comes with endless benefits, which includes spending as much time as possible with your loved ones.
The key to living longer is, yep you guessed it, living a healthy lifestyle!

Anything is possible, and living healthy is not a guarantee that you will live to see 100, however, it is the best chance you have of getting as close as you possibly can.

7. You will become more attractive

Okay, I can see how this one might be a bit controversial for some – but I promise it isn’t!

Being more attractive doesn’t just mean you look like you belong on the cover of a magazine. It means so much more than that.

When you live healthy you become happier, more positive and this makes you far more approachable, which has zero to do with looks.

You will become a more attractive human, somebody that everyone wants to get to know.

8. Your finances will thank you

So often I hear people say that healthy living is expensive, when in fact it is the opposite.

Living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean that you need to spend thousands on a gym membership and eat only purely organic from the expensive supermarket down the street.
It means walking to a farmers market, getting your daily exercise and picking up some deliciously fresh food from your locals.

Plus, when people are happier they tend to spend less money on useless household items and more time on doing things that they enjoy. Busy hands mean less spending!

9. Become a role model

I was wrong earlier, I think this is my favourite benefits of living a healthy lifestyle.

My ongoing new years’ resolution is “be the person you want Luna to be”.
What this means, is that I aim to live a life that not only my daughter will be proud of, but she can also mould her own healthy, happy life from my lead example.
Our younger generation will grow by experience, not what we tell them they should or shouldn’t be doing.

So, go be a role model to your kids, the neighbours’ kids and everyone else you come across. They will soon lead by example, and that example will spread.
